How TO PREPARE FOR ghana

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE GOING GHANA

Looking to travel to Ghana and need answers to your questions ?

Passport Markers is here to save the day, we will be your guide on how to make the most of your trip to Ghana. This was our first trip overseas and we definitely marked our territory. We stayed over for 14 days and we have compiled a list of the best ways to prepare going to Ghana. Look down and check out all the information you need to know.

Flights

The most popular time to go to Ghana is between November to April. Flights are cheapest around March. But if you would rather go in during the winter months it is advised that you book your flights very early to avoid inflated prices. For cheaper flights look into flights with one stop over. We did and ended up saving roughly £200 by catching a KLM flight.

Ghana Visa Application

Make sure you have your Ghana visa application before you fly out otherwise you will not be going anywhere. We paid £60 for a 3 month visa which roughly took a week to be completed. We would advise doing this at LEAST 3 weeks before you fly out, the price may vary from different countries though.

Getting around Ghana

We recommend using Bolt or Uber to get around to different places in Accra. Bolt is a personal favourite as they do come quicker than Uber. The cabs VERY cheap in Ghana but taking so many car journeys the prices do add up.

Payments methods

Regarding money, we would advise having the majority of your money in cash and some on your card. You can use bank cards such as Monzo and starling. Additionally there are mobile money apps such as Expresspay, MoMo and Taptap which you can use to send money using a person's mobile number.

Phone SIM

We recommend getting a Vodafone sim card if you are from the UK as they do work in GHANA. If you pay £30 it should cover you up to month. We made the mistake of not doing this and spent more money at the airport buying a sim card for roughly £50.

Aiport Area
Places to stay in Accra

We recommend to staying in Cantonments if you’re in Accra. It’s close to everything from night life to restaurants. Embassy gardens area is a good location to stay at. A lot of tourists normally stay in this area. Another place we recommend is the Airport area which is closest to the Skybar restaurant. Lastly East legon is another popular area but its further than the other two options but it is a lovely area with beautiful scenery.
